Consecration Ceremony

Congressman of the Osage Nation, John Maker, and Osage Nation leaders consecrated the land for our new urban farm yesterday. In his fourth term in Congress, John Maker has helped preserve the Osage culture by teaching the native language and passing along its history and traditions. The Osage were the predominant native American tribe who inhabited the area that is now Springfield for thousands of years.

Thank you American Indian Center of Springfield and St. John's Chapel UCC for your collaboration!

This farm is more than just a place to grow food, it’s a place to grow community, and resilience!

Meet Your Farmer

Lizard Farm was founded by Wilson and Rachel Tharp in 2023. Lizard Farms aims to bring quality flowers and fresh food to the great people of the Springfield, MO area. They grow a great selection of Market Garden Produce as well as Beautiful Bouquets! All vegetables and flowers are naturally grown with no pesticides or chemicals.

Look for their red tent on Saturday and Sunday, April thru November.

Upcoming Events

Spring is in full swing and so are our community events! From hands-on workshops to special gatherings, there’s something for everyone.

On Friday, May 23rd, SCG's Rachael West visited a local farm to see the harvest of Junsai, an aquatic plant originally from Asia that’s considered invasive in our region. While prized in some cultures for its culinary and skincare uses, it spreads quickly and can outcompete native aquatic species. By harvesting Junsai, we’re helping to control its spread and reduce its ecological impact. Studies show that proactive removal can significantly slow its growth in freshwater systems. Want to learn more? We are hosting a workshop with the Junsai Appreciation Society where we will learn all about the plant and how to process it.

4H Trip to the Watershed Committee of the Ozarks! We will do some hiking while learning about wildlife, native and invasive plants, ecosystems, our watershed along with much more!
